Sharktopus

"You just unleashed an eight-legged man-eating shark on the world!"   - Flynn

release year: 2010
genre: shark horror/action/comedy
viewing setting: home DVD, 9/7/21

synopsis: Test subject S-11 is on the loose...which is problematic since it's an angry shark/octopus hybrid.

impressions: This one wasn't from the Asylum, but rather Roger Corman...and it was fairly slick and well-done, a cut above many movies of this type. The monster looked decent, the characters each had their personality quirks and such, and there was a high body count (but not much blood...this was not an R-rated film.) There were some funny kills (it ate a bungee jumper and also a zip-liner.) Of note, this shark did in fact roar/bark both below and above water. It was also bulletproof. And it could move about on land, thanks to the tentacles.

confirmed sharktopus kills: 28

acting: Eric Roberts is the sleazy villain, a role he always plays quite well. Sara Malakul Lane is his scientist daughter who comes to realize how evil her dad is. Kerem Bursin is a John Cena imitator (same basic look but a lot less muscle mass) who's the main tough-guy hero. Liv Boughn is an annoying reporter.

final word: Fairly entertaining shark/monster action.
