The Six Million Dollar Man: The Cross-Country Kidnap

episode number: season 2, episode 12 (1975)
viewing setting: home DVD, 2/13/11

episode synopsis: Steve is assigned to be the bodyguard of a cryptographer who's determined to complete her Olympic trials, despite evidence that someone plans to kidnap her.

impressions: Well, the female lead was about as hard-headed as someone can be; at one point, Steve quips "she's got a first-class mind...of her own." It was a good job of acting, but was also irritating in that way of people who need to be guarded but refuse to believe it. Well, after her trainer gets shot and killed, she finally gets it. Other things of note: a bad-guy plot that was actually efficient and ruthless.

notable guest star: Donna Mills, noted soap opera actress, is the cryptologyst and horse-rider. TV and movie star and former teen idol Tab Hunter is one of the assassins.

significant bionic antics: Steve uses his eye to spot a spy, a sniper, and some assassings. He chases some people, and later follows the target through her horse-racing-course, which means Steve has to jump over the same obstacles. He rips his way out of a net, breaks a padlock, snaps handcuffs, breaks down a door, and hurls a heavy computer console across a room. Also noteworthy: he repairs his own arm, which was hit by a bullet.
