The Six Million Dollar Man: The E.S.P. Spy

episode number: season 2, episode 18 (1975)
viewing setting: home DVD, 2/20/11

episode synopsis: The plans to a top-secret project are being stolen...through ESP! Steve and a little girl with ESP must get to the bottom of things.

impressions: This isn't one of those "maybe it's ESP" or "it's almost ESP" type deals - this is real ESP, being used most effectively to read minds. While the girl is annoying, the concept is actually pretty interesting, especially when Steve drives down a street with the little girl and she casually mentions what the people in the houses are thinking at that exact moment. If Oscar was smart, he'd recruit that girl as an agent and thereby proactively solve most of the problems he and Steve end up having to deal with. Also of note: Steve uses an early version of a car phone in this episode.

notable guest star: Dick Van Patten from Eight is Enough is the scientist whose thoughts are being stolen. TV regular Bert Kramer is a treacherous double agent.

significant bionic antics: Steve fights off three attackers, spots someone at a long distance, and ignores an injection of truth serum that happens to go into his bionic arm. Then he breaks out of a chair he's tied to, hurls a table across a room, sprints toward a gunman to beat the shot, and knocks aside another gun pointed at his head.
