Skippy's Movie Reviews, #16: Evil Ed

Sometimes you can't judge a film by its cover. That's the lesson we learned here; the cover for Evil Ed had a guy with an axe through his face. However, despite occasional moments of gore (and even nudity) this wasn't an entertaining film.

The basic plot seemed to be that Ed, a movie splicer for some company, was forced to work on the bloody "Loose Limbs" series. He was sent to a remote house with some equipment and films to edit...and lost his mind. But we're not really sure if this was what we were supposed to think.

Some high points:
Gimp losing fight with film reels
Reel hurled like frisbee, hits other guy
Grenade in mouth, bloody explosion
Ed wanders into babeland
Topless nudity, Marty drools, settles for cutting off woman's arm
Ed cuts everything in the movies, even the nudity
Reviewers' Quote #1: "Hey, that's not Edna."
Severed foot
Reviewers' Quote #2: "Hey, I want to see more Edna transformations."
Reviewers' Quote #3: "Seems kinda slow...Ed needs to get with it."
Gremlin fish-baby hiding in freezer, babbles cool lines
Actual quote from movie: "...answer one question, Ed. Can you do that for me? Where in the fuck is my beaver rape scene?"
Reviewers' Quote #4: "Uh-oh. It finally happened. Ed's activated."
Ed leaves no dish unbroken in kitchen fight
2 severed heads! Edna finds one as it floats up in garbage can
Syringe to jugular
Ed knows a good thing when he sees it (cleavage of nurse causes him to come out of coma and be on the loose again)
ineffective SWAT team
hand blown off...head blown off (good gore effects)

In conclusion, we have to wonder why the opportunities for nudity were so seldom taken advantage of. We also have to wonder why everyone in this movie had names like Anders, Ek, Holgar, and so forth. There may be a Norwegian connection here.

While we had the same basic idea, our opinions on the merit of this film differed slightly. Mitch gives it a C, reasoning that it wasn't worse then the original "Night of the Living Dead." Thomas, on the other hand, thinks it sucked rocks, and gives it a D-.
