Sly

release year: 2023
genre: documentary
viewing setting: home streaming 11/5/23

synopsis: This is an in-depth look at the early days of Sylvester Stallone's career and success.

impressions: Like 2023's Arnold, this is a fairly intimate look at the past and motivation of one of the all-time action hero actors. It tends to focus on the Rocky series with some time also spent on the earlier Rambo movies, and Stallone is honest and open about how things were, how he dealt with success, and what's important in life. Near the end, he seemed to ramble a bit, but I think the message he was trying to convey is that you have to pay attention to your family as well as your career.

acting: n/a but it's interesting to hear the thoughts of the actor in his older years, and with the wisdom gained over all that time.

final word: Good life history of one of the movie icons of the late 20th century.
