Sniper: Ultimate Kill

release year: 2017
genre: action/drama
viewing setting: home DVD 1/10/21

synopsis: Son of sniper teams up with all previous living snipers to take on a South American drug lord and the sniper-assassin in his employ.

impressions: In the last one, I commented that this series was losing steam...well, they fixed it with this one! There's a solid plot, some betrayals, and plenty of action. I kept thinking that this looked better - a lot better - than a direct-to-disc movie. It reminded me a bit of action franchises like the Fast and the Furious. It moved along fast and was constantly entertaining.

location of mission: Colombia then Miami

sidekick/companion: Santiago shows up as Brandon's spotter for a single mission, and then mysteriously vanishes halfway through the movie. I guess you could say that Kate then took over.

acting: Chad Michael Collins is the main hero, the competent and proactive son of the original sniper. That's Tom Berenger, who's back as some sort of tie-wearing government spy executive in charge of everything. Except that Billy Zane, who's also back and also wears a tie, seems to be in charge of more here. Of course, at the end, both of the older snipers get some action time behind the scope of a rifle. Danay Garcia is a tough, driven female agent who helps. Joe Lando is a stereotypical government jackass. Andres Felipe Calero is the Columbian assassin.

final word: Fun and entertaining; this one is the shot in the arm that the series needed after the 6th one slowed down.
