Solo: A Star Wars Story

"If you come with us, you're in this life for good."    - Beckett

release year: 2018
genre: sci-fi drama/action
viewing setting: home Bluray, 9/27/17

synopsis: This is somewhat of an origin story for Han Solo, one of the leads of the Star Wars films.

impressions: While possibly unnecessary (some cool characters are mainly cool because we don't know their origins) this movie did provide details of several early events (Han meeting Chewbacca, meeting Lando, making the Kessel run in record time, gaining the Millenium Falcon.) It also had plenty of action and humor, as well as some serious parts. And of course special effects and aliens!

acting: Alden Ehrenreich is the dashing, idealistic young Solo. Donald Glover is the young, conniving Lando Calrissian. Woody Harrelson is a criminal who takes Han under his wing. Emilia Clarke is the love of the pre-adventurer Solo's life (who he seems to forget about after she appears lost.) Paul Bettany is an intergalactic crime lord.

final word: Good (if not critical) prequel in the greater universe.
