episode number: season 2, episode 1 (1986)
viewing setting: home DVD, 3/6/13

episode synopsis: After the head chemist at a pharmaceutical company hires Ray to look into lethal drugs being made for sale in Africa, he vanishes without a trace.

impressions: This is the one with the evil pharmaceutical company heads who are producing ineffective drugs and making money selling them to foreign countries with sick people. The guy who got Ray into this disappears, and so he and Michelle have to get to the bottom of things. There's some suspense, a good car chase, and baseball analogies. Also, this episode references the Vietnam conflict, the fact that Ray was there, and the reactions he has to a fellow veteran who came back with mental problems.

notable guest stars: Steven Williams plays a shell-shocked Vietnam veteran.

cool actions and tactics: Ray adopts a flawless foreign accent, uses a meter to scan for bugs, and displays impressive hand-to-hand fighting skills as well as driving skills.

quotable:
Michelle: "Now there's only one problem: who're you?"
Ray: "You're asking too many questions."
Michelle: "It's just that you're the prevailing mystery in my life that I can't solve. And now that I've paid back my favor, I have this sinking feeling that I never will."
Ray: "Well, some mysteries are never solved."
