Stranger Things season 3

"Why do I get the feeling we're gonna find all kinds of wrong in here?" - Sheriff Hopper

release year: 2019
genre: TV drama/sci-fi (8 episodes)
viewing setting: home streaming 12/25/22 (aka Stranger Christmas)

synopsis: Once again, creatures from the parallel dimension intrude into ours...and this time the kids have some new friends to help out.

impressions: This time we have a new mall with a secret, and Russians secretly operating on U.S. soil, and the return of the monster from last season. There were, as always, subtle tributes to 1980s things (stores, cars, clothes, hobbies, and more.) The songs played in the background of some scenes also represented the music of that time. There were also some famous people in minor roles: Jake Busey, Cary Elwes are the ones new to this season. Overall, this is a great mix of drama, horror, and 1980s nostalgia.

acting: I don't tend to discuss the developing roles within ensemble casts, but the ones who stood out this season were Joe Keery as the former jock student who still helps the younger kids deal with the weirdness, Maya Hawke as his quirky but cool co-worker, Priah Ferguson as the spunky and sassy little sister of one of the main kids, and Dacre Montgomery as the tough older brother of another.

final word: Quirky, nostalgic, and fun.
