Supercroc

release year: 2007
genre: horror
viewing setting: home DVD, 8/11/08

synopsis: A gigantic crocodile is on the loose and headed for Los Angeles.

impressions: To give you an idea of how bad this was, I am sitting here typing the review 3 weeks after watching the movie...and I don't really remember very much. And that's sad. For a movie that says, right on the DVD cover, "It's 50 feet long...it's 25 feet tall...and in 14 hours, it will be here!" this one disappointed. I'm not sure how big the monster was because we never really got to see it next to anything. The #1 problem with this movie is that about half of it took place in a tiny room filled with computers and people, the idea being that this was some sort of military command center whose staff were in charge of all efforts to stop the giant roaming crocodile. What this meant, in practical terms, is that every 30 seconds or so, the movie cut away from any crocodile action (or non-action) to this command center. This is bad, bad, BAD pacing and editing. No one cares about these morons, we want to see the monster! And we didn't really see it do much; in fact, most scenes with people shooting at it never showed the people and the monster in the same scene. Come to think of it, the crocodile really didn't _do_ much at all. Although a few soldiers were killed, it never really attacked any cars, city streets, buildings, etc. I suspect that budget limitations led to this problem.

something this movie has that no other movie has: crocodile vs helicopter

acting: Two actors play Army soldiers who actually do something and act intelligently. There's also an evil scientist-type woman who seems obsessed with taking the croc's eggs for some secret government project or something.

final word: It was a super-CROC of sh*t.
