Super Shark

Colonel: "Bullets bounce off of it, it walks around on its fins, and it flies. Really?"
Jill: "It's super shark."

release year: 2011
genre: monster mayhem
viewing setting: home streaming 10/22/25

synopsis: A prehistoric shark (with unusual abilities) is released by underwater drilling and goes on a rampage.

impressions: This giant shark was pretty wacky; among other things it leaped out of the water to smash boats and snatch people off of cliffs, destroyed a submarine, growled while underwater, walked on land using its fins, and was able to dodge tank fire. Other noteworthy elements here: a theme song played in the opening credits, an idiotic DJ who runs a bikini contest complete with a full complement of dork spectators, fairly random shark attacks, a bikini photo shoot, one girl actually trying to fight back against the shark, and a top-secret walking tank thing that predictably fails to stop the super shark.

body count: 12 (plus the collective contents of a U.S. Navy submarine, a jet plane, and a tank)

acting: Tim Abell is the main good guy, a helpful boat captain. Catherine Annette is some sort of marine agent who turns out to have another agenda. John Schneider is the semi-evil but likeable leader of the company that caused the problem in the first place.

final word: Decent giant shark cheese, with a lot of funny situations and lines; worth seeing.
