Terminator: Zero

release year: 2024
genre: animated action/adventure/sci-fi
viewing setting: home streaming 9/15-22/24

synopsis: In Japan, just before Skynet initiates worldwide nuclear apocalypse, a scientist and his family must contend with those sent from the future as well as their own issues with AI and robots.

impressions: This animated series is best described as the story of how things went down in Japan, but it also raises some interesting questions about the nature of AI and time travel. The plot and events have the familiar elements of Terminator mythology but also put some new spins on things. Things really get bonkers in the last two episodes, in which secrets are revealed and important decisions are made (some of which will tie into the next season, which I assume will happen.)

acting: n/a but the voices and subtitles are both top-notch

final word: Interesting, entertaining, and thought-provoking alternate viewpoint of the Terminator franchise.
