The Land That Time Forgot
release year: 1974
genre: adventure
viewing setting: home DVD 5/23/23
synopsis: During World War I, an assortment of wartime foes ends up on a mysterious lost island and must work together to survive.
impressions: This was a pretty good adventure. It threw together several different types of people, and they had to explore and survive in a strange and dangerous land that had not only primitive people but also dinosaurs. It took 32-36 minutes to set the stage and then the adventures really began. The dinosaurs looked decent considering the special effects limitations back in 1974, and the movie pretty much constantly conveyed a sense of wonder and the unknown.
acting: Doug McClure is the main man of action. John McEnery is the Nazi sub captain, who turns out to be much more reasonable than expected. Susan Penhaligon is a woman who has scientific skills and helps unravel the mysteries. Anthony Ainley is a Nazi who isn't too happy with the truce. Bobby Parr is a primitive man who the group befriends.
final word: Slightly dated but still fun and entertaining lost-world adventure.
