The Night Comes For Us

"Death shadows you."   - Arian

release year: 2018
genre: action
viewing setting: home Bluray 12/6/21

synopsis: An elite Triad enforcer quits, which sets into motion a cycle of bloody retaliation..

impressions: So this guy was once part of a group of thieves, then quit to go be a mob enforcer...then reached the pinnacle of that career and quit. There are connections to both of his former groups, as well as other parties competing for turf in the crime world. As with The Raid and its sequel, it's common in these films for someone to fight off dozens of attackers, while being punched, kicked, stabbed, slashed, and so on. I have to admit, I did find myself confused by plot points sometimes, but I was able to figure it out.

acting: Subtitles/foreign language made true judging of the acting difficult. Joe Taslim is the bad guy who has a change of heart. Asha Bermudez, a young girl he saves, is the reason why. Iko Uwais is another former member of the old group, who also aims to become a top-level Triad enforcer. Sunny Pang is the goofy-looking main enforcer. Dian Sastrowardoyo and Hannah Al Rashid are two of his top assassins. Julie Estelle is a mysterious but lethal woman with an agenda of her own. Let it be known that all three of these women are deadly fighting machines! Abimana Aryasatya is Ito's friend who helps him as he stays on the run. Ditto Zack Lee as a crazy white guy.

final word: Yet another wild frenzy of bloody action from Indonesia.
