The Street Fighter's Last Revenge

Costello: "Are you ready to die?"
Tsurugi: "You'll see."

release year: 1974
genre: action
viewing setting: home Bluray 1/30/23

synopsis: The toughest, most aggressive fighting minion around is back for more, as he's once again run afoul of the mob.

impressions: These have plots generally centered around putting people in the best position to fight, and I guess that's fine. This movie (and the first two) reminded me of that staple of my 1980s childhood, USA's Kung-Fu Theater. There wwas something about a missing blackmail tape that was worth a billion yen - and various parties trying to secure that money - but people like me watch movies like this for the head-splitting, bone-crunching action.

acting: As before, it's challenging for me to assess this given the dubbing/subtitling. Sonny Chiba walks around taking assignments, getting betrayed, and then kicking everybody's asses. Reiko Aye is a criminal sister who will sleep with anyone to get the money and stay alive. Koji Wada is a lawyer who secretly has massive karate skill. Etsuko Shihomi is a feisty female fighter who tries to be Chiba's buddy, fails, and then randomly vanishes from the movie.

final word: Simple, near-mindless martial arts action.
