The Wave

release year: 2015
genre: disaster drama
viewing setting: home streaming 6/8/23

synopsis: In the mountainous reaches of Norway, an avalanche causes a tsunami which destroys and floods a town and the area around it.

impressions: This one did a good job both building up the characters and building up the tension. It was fairly easy to see that something bad was going to happen, then it did, and those who survived had to try and find/rescue their loved ones. There were some scenes with underground places slowly flooding, and those especially were gripping.

acting: Kristoffer Joner is the main guy, who sees the disaster coming and then once it happens, he has to try and save his family. Ane Dahl Torp is his wife, who's fairly competent. Jonas Hoff Oftebro is their teenaged son, who makes some dumb decisions both before and after the flooding. Edith Haagenrud-Sande is the younger daughter, who actually remains relatively calm and even cheerful despite the problems.

final word: Fairly gripping disaster movie.
