To Catch A Smuggler, season 5

release year: 2022
genre: TV documentary show (10 episodes)
viewing setting: home streaming 7/2-4/23

synopsis: Homeland Security officers at different U.S. airports and border crossings go about their jobs daily, inspecting people, vehicles, luggage, and shipped goods for anything bad.

impressions: This season had a mix of airport gates/baggage claim, packages, and border control. Among the many highlights: fish with drug pellets hidden inside...weird Cambodian food...lots of human smuggling...some idiot from England who was in jail in Mexico and pretended to be a U.S. citizen...ancient jewelry that has to be tested for authenticity...888 bricks of drugs left on a beached boat...a dark net pill seller...the HSI people head to Paris...a guy who always gets stopped at the border was still stupid enough to bring a bunch of drugs...an idiot at the border crossing who hit the car in front of him which exposed the bundles in his own car...a lady with a ton of undeclared jewelry, who played stupid...a guy with 40 pairs of sneakers and a dumb story...a guy with several suitcases full of tobacco in all shapes and forms...XXXX

acting: n/a but a number of the officers show up in multiple episodes, and you start to feel like you get to know them (and their approach and tactics) after a while.

final word: Highly entertaining look at the work done to protect the U.S. at its borers and airportsd.
