Transformers

release year: 2007
genre: sci-fi/action
viewing setting: home DVD, 1/26/09

synopsis: An advanced robotic/alien race's war carries over onto Earth.

impressions: It had a lot of action and special effects, battle, and also humor - quips and lines that you'd miss if you blinked. My one issue with the movie was that the majority of Transformers looked almost identical, and most of the time it was tough to know which ones were the good guys and the bad guys. That aside, this was a pretty good movie.

something this movie has that no other movie has: Robotic beings that can change into vehicles and back.

acting: Shia LaBeouf is a wisecracking teen whose great-grandfather happens to have been involved with a previous incident. Megan Fox is a schoolmate of his who becomes involed and provides romantic comedy and tension. Josh Duhamel is the leader of a Special Forces unit who survives an early attack, and Tyrese Gibson is one of his soldiers. Jon Voight is the Secretary of Defense. John Turturro is a weird secret government-type.

final word: Good modern adaptation of this milieu.
