Tremors 3: Back to Perfection

"We can't wait for the authorities to bumble into this. We ARE the authorities."   - Burt

release year: 2001
genre: monster action/comedy
viewing setting: home DVD 1/21/23

synopsis: In remote Perfection, Nevada...the underground worms are back, and are continuing to mutate into new forms.

impressions: More of the same: monster action with a strong comedic twist. The formula's worked twice already, and it works again here. We've got the survivalist from the previous entries in the series, plus a cowboy man of action, a smart and sassy store owner, and a few returning residents from the first adventure. There are also some government guys trying to capture a specimen (always a bad idea, in any monster movie) and a new variant of worm...that flies. This is probably to be expected, as in the first movie they burrowed, in the second movie they walked above ground, and now they take to the air. Wheeee.

body count: 3, plus two offscreen, plus one regurgitation.

acting: Michael Gross is in fine form as the gun-savvy prepper. Shawn Christian is the cowboy-type who scams tourists with a fake monster tour, until one of them gets eaten by a real monster. Susan Chuang is the quirky and funny shopkeeper who helps out; she's to thank for most of the humor here, and helps bring a light-hearted tone to things. Four others return from the first movie, with minor roles.

final word: Very fun and entertaining, well worth watching for anyone who liked the original film.
