Vampire Girl vs Frankenstein Girl
release year: 2009
genre: horror/comedy
viewing setting: home streaming 9/14/24
synopsis: A new student at a Japanese high school turns out to be a vampire, which leads to all sorts of mayhem culminating in a crazy opponent made from body parts.
impressions: This was absolutely fucking bonkers. If you ever wanted to see a reanimated corpse with random body parts reattached in random places, flying around and executing weird attacks using the misattached organs...this is the movie for you. Nowhere else (I suspect, and hope) can you see severed legs attached to someone's head by a screw and used as propellers to fly. This was complete and utter madness from some warped minds in the Japanese film world, but it also showed some aspects of high school life and social behavior in Japan. To borrow a phrase from my pothead neighbor in the 1980s, "It will assault your mind."
acting: Yukie Kawamura is the vampire, who's simple and efficient in getting what she wants. Takumi Saito is the guy she chooses to be her mate/companion. Eri Otoguro is the regular girl who thinks she's with that guy and so gets upset (and ends up being killed and reanimated.) Sayaka Kametani is a hot-blooded school nurse who's in cahoots with the mad scientist guy.
final word: Insane but entertaining mix of blood, humor, drama, and action.
