Virus

release year: 1998
genre: sci-fi/horror
viewing setting: home laserdisc, 7/16/99
what I expected: wasn't sure
what I got: not-too-original sci-fi

synopsis: Electricity-based life form comes from space and takes over a ship and builds robotic bodies to kill humans.

impressions: Entertaining, but very similar to Hardware in the way the antagonist formed, looked, and acted. It was well-made, with plenty of loud explosions and tense moments...but it just didn't feel original.

acting: Jamie Lee Curtis was the star, I guess, but she didn't dominate the movie. Donald Sutherland played an asshole of a captain. Joanna Pacula did okay as the lone surviving Russian from the ship's original crew.

final word: Watchable, but not the best of this genre.

rating: C
