The Vision of Escaflowne (TV series, 1996)

release year: 1996
genre: animated fantasy (26 episodes)
viewing setting: home Bluray 1/18 - 2/3/24

synopsis: A large cast of characters ally, battle, or alternate between both as a strange wizard manipulates the fate of the world.

impressions: This was grand in its scope, with a large and robust cast of characters. I can't and won't get into any deep analysis here, but I can tell you that it's an epic where the lines between good and evil are not always clear. The animation is excellent and the voice cast does a great job. Among other elements I'll randomly list, this series contains: a parallel world whose sky contains out Earth and moon, castles that fly through the sky, mechas piloted by people, animal-people, fortune-telling and future-seeing, Atlantis, secret pasts for a number of characters, love triangles, and more.

acting: n/a but all of the (many) different character voices were well-done

final word: Sweeping fantasy saga, well worth watching.
