Wham!

release year: 2023
genre: documentary
viewing setting: home streaming 8/13/23

synopsis: This documentary details the formation, rise, and short but great career of the band Wham!

impressions: The filmmakers did a really good job of splicing old interview footage to make it look like the two members of the band (one of whom has been deceased for years) are actually talking to each other and the viewer. Very well done. This documentary will tell you everything you need to know about the band and its two members, how they came to be, their greatest successes, and why they split up. I learned that the "other guy in Wham!" (Andrew Ridgeley) was actually the main driver in its early days, and in helping George Michael break out of his shy shell. I also learned that they didn't really feud and split up - it was more that one member was destined for a solo career, and the time had come.

acting: n/a but the quantity and quality of the interviews and footage is quite impressive.

final word: Great backstory for this band that domainated the 1980s.
