Wild Beauty - "Solo Bushcraft - Make a Cabin in the Ground/ The Safest Shelter in the Forest"

release date: 12/31/2021
genre: wilderness Youtube channel
viewing setting: streaming 10/23/23

synopsis: This Youtube channel shares videos of a woman roaming the jungle and building, killing, cooking, and eating things.

impressions: In this 29-minute episode, the forest fire of last time is apparently no longer a concern, and now she's found a random spot in the woods and builds a fire, while the monkey eats grass and the dog observes silently. It must be cold, since both she and the dog are wearing their jackets. She proceeds to clear out an area and dig a large hole, while the monkey keeps trying to ride on the dog's back and then they both sit there and watch her work. It takes her a while (the ground is as much hard clay as dirt) but eventually she's excavated a large hole and an entry passageway. Meanwhile, the monkey is sleeping in the dog's crotch. She cuts down and hauls some bamboo, and soon she's got a roof with a trapdoor for her underground dwelling, and then a side door. Occasionally, the monkey gets tired of resting and climbs up trees to check things out. Before long, the new underground chamber's roof is covered and disguised with grass and transplanted bushes, which have to be placed around the dog since his lazy ass refuses to move out of the way while she works. Oh, and her underground house comes complete with a fireplace and separate chimney for its smoke. Now it's dinnertime and she's brought...yep, you guessed it...raw meat, again. That woke the monkey up (and now he's tripping, pawing at the air for some reason) but the dog slumbers on. And at 26:00 the monkey vigorously scratches his ass. When the meat's done, the woman moves it onto a plate, and of course now the dog's wide awake - although it's not clear if he was offered (or ate) any food this time...unlike the monkey, who really chowed down. After the feast, everyone passes out under the blanket.

So basically, in the last few episodes she built a home above ground, and then had to flee due to the forest fire...and she just bounced right back and built another home, this time below ground. It's like nothing can stop her.

So with all of the 2017 episodes processed, let's take another look at the dog's eating habits. There were 17 episodes posted in 2017, of which one was a combination of the previous three. Of the 16 actual episodes I was able to watch, 2 didn't have food served, 2 didn't show the dog at dinnertime, and 1 had dinner aborted due to a nearby forest fire. That leaves 11 episodes in which the dog was actually offered whatever the woman had cooked; 8 times he accepted while 3 times he refused. Foods he refused to eat included octopus and shrimp. He did eat chicken, goat, and fish among other things.

acting: There's no acting; this is a woman doing cool stuff in the wilderness.

final word: Interesting bushcraft/survival web content.
