the Barry concept

In 2023, while watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind for the first time in a long while, I realized something that movie had in common with a number of other movies: a clueless young kid who lacked the sense to know not to wander away when strange things were afoot. Now, while it worked out fine for Barry in Close Encounters, it very likely would not have in many other situations with aliens, monsters, zombies, or what have you. In most movies, a Barry would be killed, eaten, turned to stone, dissolved by alien acid, or suffer some other horrible fate.

The bottom line is that small children should be protected from wandering away, which probably means they need to be protected from their own stupidity/cluelessness/helplessness.

So I am now going to invent the Barry concept and mention it in my movie reviews whenever Barrys appear in other movies.
