Cowboy Bebop (26 episodes)
release year: 1998
genre: animated sci-fi/action (26 episodes)
viewing setting: home Bluray 8/24 to 9/29/26
synopsis: A couple of bounty hunters, and their handful of odd companions, have adventures in the solar system of 2071.
impressions: This early anime was also one of the best-made and most popular. It mixes the sci-fi, action, and western genres and focuses on two bounty hunters - a grizzled older ex-cop and a brash young guy - as they fly around the solar system trying to make money by finding and apprehending various fugitives. Along the way, they pick up a mysterious young woman, a smart dog, and a possibly-insane hacker kid. They also each come to terms with various events and people from their pasts. There is an overarching plotline involving a crime syndicate, but many episodes are self-contained adventures. There are also tons of pop culture references (which I won't list here, as this is easily searchable online.) While some episodes seemed a bit slower or sillier, others were serious or unusual and really held my interest. The animation is top-notch, especially considering how long ago this series was made.
acting: It's voice acting here, but it's very well-done.
final word: Classic, well-done, entertaining sci-fi series.
