King of the Lost World

release year: 2005
genre: action/adventure
viewing setting: home streaming 8/23/26

synopsis: Survivors of a plane crash find themselves in a crazy land full of aggressive natives as well as lethal plant and animal life.

impressions: This was an early Asylum release that adapted Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World while also featuring a gigantic ape. While this sounded like fun, it really wasn't due to confusing character actions, plot holes and other unexplained things, and gigantic ape being a bad CGI creation. I found myself completely uninterested in taking notes, not even to help me explain the movie here. All that said, the acting was decent, as were most of the effects. The script just wasn't up to par.

acting: Jeff Denton and Rhett Giles are the men of action, and since they looked very similar, I couldn't really tell them apart. Bruce Boxleitner is a shady military guy who's mostly an asshole. Sarah Lieving is some sort of journalist who thinks her camera is more important than her life. Christina Rosenberg is a fiesty survivor who plays it tough.

final word: Inferior as either an adaptation or a ripoff, possibly not worth seeing depending on your tolerance for this sort of thing.
