Mortal Kombat II

release year: 2026
genre: martial arts / fantasy / action
viewing setting: home Bluray 8/4/26

synopsis: In this direct sequel to the last movie, the previous victors (plus new allies) must take on the Emperor Shao Khan for the fate of the Earth.

impressions: If you can accept, as the basic premise, that there are other worlds and warriors with special powers...then you'll be able to dive right into this. Even if that's not the case, you should still enjoy it...because it's filled with interesting and entertaining characters who often fight to the death. I found the dialogue and lines to be just as fun as the fight scenes.

acting: Karl Urban is the new good guy, who curses a lot and has a sour attitude - but has to change to save his world. Adeline Rudolph is Kitana, who still holds a grudge against the main bad guy. Tati Gabrielle is her friend and sparring partner, who's not so nice. Many of the characters from the past movie return: Lewis Tan as someone who wasn't in the video game series, Jessica McNamee as a female soldier, Mehcad Brooks as her friend with metal arms, Ludi Lin as the fire-using Liu Kang, Joe Taslim as the reborn Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as his foe Scorpion. There's also the towering Martyn Ford as the evil emperor. The most entertaining actors were Josh Lawson as the sneering, sarcastic Kano and CJ Bloomfield as the snaggletoothed man-monster Baraka.

final word: It continues and expands the world and characters from the first movie, with plenty of violent action and great lines.
