Operation Blood Hunt

release year: 2024
genre: action/horror
viewing setting: home streaming 7/13/26

synopsis: During World War II, a team of elite soldiers/mercenaries is sent to a remote southeast Asian island to find out why others sent there disappeared...and they do, since there are werewolves on the loose.

impressions: This was odd. On one hand, it brought together a diverse and fairly interesting group of soldiers and sent them away on a mission that was a lie and pitted them against something strange and dangerous (just like in Predator.) On the other hand, not quite enough time was spent developing all of the characters before they started dying, plus things got a little confusing at times. The movie had its own style, and it was...different. I just felt like it could have been better with some tightening-up. I can tell you two things for sure: they didn't skimp on the blood and gore, and the monster effects were practical not CGI. I liked how, at the end, the existence of other monsters was referenced.

acting: Quinton Jackson is the odd reverend who had past history and motivation to fight monsters. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is his sarcastic, dangerous friend. There are a variety of others in the team sent on the mission; the most notable to me were Myles Clohessy as a Texan pistoleer and Melody Prapassorn as a knife-wielding badass Thai chick. Louis Mandylor is a vampire whose exact involvement remains unclear.

final word: Decent and somewhat unique werewolf movie, worth seeing once for sure.
