The Secret History of the White House

release year: 2019
genre: documentary
viewing setting: home streaming 9/23/26

synopsis: This documentary explores one aspect of the 200+ year history of the White House, namely its defenses and any underground tunnels and bunkers that do (or might) lie beneath it.

impressions: This started off asking about a massive construction project on the White House grounds twenty years ago, and then delved into all the past work done to protect the building's occupants in case of attack. It was interesting, but was not a complete history of the place itself - it was focused on underground areas both real and theorized.

acting: n/a, but among those interviewed were an engineer, a historian, a former Secret Service agent, and a researcher.

final word: Informative documentary about a rather niche topic.
