Star Trek, the original series, season 2 episode 17: The Immunity Syndrome

Kirk: "Do you have any ideas, Spock?"
Spock: "We still have no specifics, but we seem to have entered a zone of energy which is incompatible with our living and mechanical proceses."

release year: 1968
genre: television sci-fi
viewing setting: home streaming 10/7/26 and several other times in the distant past

synopsis: The Enterprise responds to a distress signal and finds itself trapped inside a giant amoeba which is draining their power.

impressions: This was somewhat neat, but featured a Kirk who pushed the ship into the dangerous unknown in the name of exploration. I'd have been more cautions, but I suppose that's why I haven't been promoted to Captain and given command of a starship. Kirk also used the ship's intercom several times, to let the crew know what was up. Chekov was in this one, but Sulu was missing.

acting: There was some good interplay between the main three as they discussed and debated the nature of the space amoeba and how to escape and/or destroy it. If Kirk had listened to McCoy and turned the ship around while they still could, the whole mess would have been avoided.

final word: Good ship-vs-strange-giant-menace-in-space episode.
