The Flood
release year: 2023
genre: monster/action
viewing setting: home streaming 8/16/26
synopsis: A massive hurricane/storm causes massive flooding, which draws massive alligators to a building containing a variety of people with a variety of circumstances.
impressions: This was a good, tightly-paced monster movie. Well, alligator movie - but know this, they were big and aggressive. Oh, and also one apparently climbed a vertical shaft at some point, but I guess these things happen. What we've got here is a badly-understaffed local police headquarters which sees a bus show up, with dangerous inmates, to ride out the storm. So far, this is Assault on Precinct 13 with alligators...but the twist is that a group of ex-military criminals also shows up to break one of the bus passengers out of jail. Of course, all of these peoples' plans are interrupted (often violently) by the bunch of alligators that have infiltrated the building. Anyway, it was well-done (including the CGI alligators) and moved along quickly, and had plenty of action, humor, and alligator attacks.
body count: 14 (10 by alligator attacks) plus an indeterminate number of alligators
acting: Nicky Whelan is the sheriff who has to deal with all of the above. Casper Van Dien is the smartest and nicest of the criminals who were on the bus. The people who played the various criminals and police and guards and jailbreakers generally did good jobs and made their characters memorable.
final word: Thoroughly enjoyable trapped-in-a-building-with-killer-alligators mayhem, well worth watching.
