Tulsa King, season 3 (10 episodes)
release year: 2025
genre: crime drama
viewing setting: home Bluray 10/14-15/26
synopsis: While secretly being pressured by a federal agent, Dwight also decides to get into the liquor-distilling business - which is a problem because an evil old Dixie Mafia boss already dominates that industry in the area.
impressions: This was like one long conflict against the evil liquor tycoon and his people. By the second or third episode, I was already shouting to Dwight on the screen "What the fuck are you waiting for? Go attack him, NOW!" However, the showrunners didn't ask me for my input, so events went on for a full ten episodes. Other side plots: an old adversary is now running for governor, the New York mob boss gets pissed at Dwight and takes action, some of the crew start their own side business.
acting: Sylvester Stallone's character was still tough some of the time, but also suffered from a number of other instances of taking no action, preferring to wait until they know more. I have to say, if I was one of the people he was pushing to become his ally, I'd say "hey, man, sure - but first you need to deal with that old bastard Dunmire." The rest of the cast (returning regulars as well as new people) is pretty sizable at this point, so I'll note the ones who I think had the most to do in this third season. Garrett Hedlund is one of the right-hand men, and rekindles an old romance with Bella Heathcote, who plays the sole survivor of the non-evil liquor family. Robert Patrick is the old man in charge of the evil family, and he does a great job. Beau Knapp is his son, who's also a pretty tough customer. Mike Walden is Dwight's big, strong chief bodyguard. Kevin Pollak is a new addition, as the federal government agent who's manipulating Dwight. Scarlet Stallone is a bartender who helps dream up a new scheme; Jay Will is the regular driver who joins in it. Neal McDonough is back as a businessman who's now running for governor. Last but not least, Samuel Jackson shows up late in the season as a hitman who's an old friend of Dwight's. As you can see, there's a lot going on here!
final word: Enjoyable crime drama about taking and holding power, but also the importance of family.
