The A-Team: When You Comin' Back, Range Rider?

episode number: season 2, episode 5 (1984)
viewing setting: home DVD, 6/2/05

episode synopsis: The team takes on a cattle rancher who's stealing horses and sending them away to be killed, but they're also being hunted by a new Army nemesis.

impressions: Damn good episode after a flurry of mediocre ones. The plot is tight, there's plenty of action and humor, and Colonel Decker makes his debut. He's a ruthless results-over-methods guy and actually seems to pose a threat.

notable guest star: Dana Kimmel, the evil rancher's innocent daughter, has appeared in Friday the 13th part 3 and Lone Wolf McQuade.

what the team builds in this episode: an armor-plated railroad car (honorable mention: they also destroy a lot of railroad track and cars)

Hannibal wisecrack highlight: he's absolutely unflappable when contemplating the problem of Colonel Decker, constantly making witty comments

B.A. toughness highlight: he knocks down several opponents with a single punch each

Murdock insanity highlight: thinks he's the Range Rider, from the 1950s serial

Face scam highlight: convinces a pretty lady to help him hide with her in a store's changing room

Amy usefulness highlight: learns how to use a bow and arrow, then fires dynamite-laden arrows at bad guys later
