Dinoshark
"At least they got their wildlife adventure." - Trace, after finding a severed head floating next to a kayak
release year: 2010
genre: giant monster horror
viewing setting: home streaming 10/23/25
synopsis: A collapsing ice sheet releases a prehistoric shark, which promptly heads south on a feeding frenzy.
impressions: I rather enjoyed this. It came to us from the studio of Roger Corman, well-known for producing monster or sci-fi B-movies...and I have to say, it delivered on the kills. Some things worth noting: chick does her research on the computer and then decides to take off her shirt...Jaws-like music at times...the big dinosaur/shark flies out of the water to get past a blockage...it also shoots up out of the water to take down a helicopter...a young Barry wanders off and is menaced by a big crocodile which suddenly gets eaten by the dinoshark...the promised "fantastic day of fun at the marina" actually comes true, at least for the dinoshark...a water polo player suddenly forgets how to swim...people fail to realize that diving into the water when the dinoshark is around serves no real purpose...a jetskier and a parasailer both find that they can't outrun the dinoshark...luckily, the good guys have some grenades...some feisty music comes on during the rescue scene...the dinoshark isn't dead and it sits there in the water flapping its jaws waiting to be attacked again.
body count: 15 confirmed individuals, plus the occupants of a helicopter, plus a big crocodile, plus the occupants of a small sailboat and most of the occupants of a large excursion boat, plus a handful from a water polo match
acting: Eric Balfour is the main guy, who seems to have no super skills (or aim in life) but is a man of action at a time when action is needed. Iva Hasperger is the scientist chick who helps him. Roger Corman has a small role as some sort of doctor/professor/scientist who eventually lets the good guys know how to kill the dinoshark.
final word: Fairly well-made and very entertaining giant shark/dinosaur fun.
