guy: "What, where's the explosion?"
other guy: "It's a chunk of rock. Rocks don't explode."
woman: "Tell that to the dinosaurs."

release year: 2020
genre: action/adventure
viewing setting: home streaming 4/18/24

synopsis: A sudden world-threatening event galvanizes a family into action amidst the chaos.

impressions: This was a fairly entertaining disaster movie that focused on one family's attempt to find safety (and their numerous blunders along the way, all kickstarted by the kid.) I liked how the government secretly contacted key individuals who it wanted to survive and rebuild humanity afterward. Well, I didn't really like it, but it was interesting, as was the acknowledgement of some of those helping with the evacuations that they were volunteering and would not be saved themselves.

acting: Gerard Butler is the main hero/father/husband. Morena Baccarin is his wife, who makes a few mistakes. Roger Dale Floyd is their son, who has several moments of stupidity (he was an early suspect for possible Barry behavior but actually ended up never wandering away despite our suspicions. Scott Glenn has a minor role as a tough father.

final word: Good fun end-of-the-world action/drama, worth seeing.
