Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

release year: 2012
genre: adventure
viewing setting: home DVD, 8/18/12

synopsis: A young explorer, his stepfather, and a couple of Palau tour guides discover a hidden island full of adventure and danger.

impressions: Entertaining. The science of it was a little stretched at times, but overall, this was exactly what the first one was: just silly fun. There are plenty of real dangers and wondrous things to discover. I liked how the island was actually an amalgam of three different fictional tales' islands.

acting: This isn't Academy-Award level material, but everyone knows it. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is the tough stepfather. Josh Hutcherson is the young hero. Michael Caine is his old hero grandfather. Vanessa Hudgins is the hot daughter of the tour guide (Luis Guzman.)

final word: Just fun, which is all an adventure movie really should be.
