The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult

"Well... We shot a lot of people together. It's been great. But today I retire, so if I do any shooting now, it'll have to be within the confines of my own home. Hopefully, an intruder and not an in-law, like at my bachelor party." - Lt. Frank Drebin

release year: 1994
genre: police comedy
viewing setting: home Bluray 10/10/20

synopsis: Lieutenant Frank Drebin stumbles out of retirement to foil a plot to sabotage the Academy Awards.

impressions: More of the same (Airplane! and Police Squad and Naked Gun type humor.) It was funny, but also drew heavily on other movies and TV shows for material to spoof, and overall it felt tired and past its prime.

acting: Leslie Nielsen is the always-serious central character. The goofy George Kennedy is his boss, and O.J. Simpson is another cop who's not always focused. Priscilla Presley is his wife, who always seems to have issues with him. Fred Ward is the bad guy. There are a ton of celebrity appearances in this one.

final word: Not nearly as funny as all that came before from this creative team.
