The Punisher, season 2

release year: 2019
genre: TV crime/drama series (13 episodes)
viewing setting: home DVD 4/26-30/2021

synopsis: Ex-soldier Frank Castle continues to get involved in other people's problems, with violent and painful results.

impressions: More of the same. This really reminded me of Daredevil in that the main character is constantly fighting and getting beaten up, stabbed, slashed, shot, and otherwise wounded...he's perpetually wounded. I also noticed that in this season, he really seemed to drag others into that violence. It was entertaining, but I think I'd prefer to see a straight-out war on crime, without the needy, mistake-making supporting cast of non-Punishers.

acting: Jon Bernthal is the main character, who just can't stay out of trouble. Ben Barnes returns as his former teammate who's now a known murderer and crime lord on the run. Amber Rose Revah also returns as a rather indecisive and easily-duped Homeland Security agent. Jason Moore returns as Castle's best friend, who gives up a lot (including taking beatings) for him. Royce Johnson is also back as an NYPD detective who's always a step behind Castle. Floriana Lima is a therapist who's not as stable as she appears to be. Josh Stewart is a strange religious assassin. Corbin Bernsen has a small role as the patriarch of a huge company that's behind it all..

final word: Dark, violent continuation of the character introduced in Daredevil.
