Extraction 2

Ketevan: "These men are killers."
Rake: "Well, so am I."

release year: 2023
genre: action
viewing setting: home streaming 1/11/24

synopsis: After the violent outcome last time, super-mercenary Rake retires to a remote snowbound cabin...until his services are needed again.

impressions: This one actually seemed a little better than the first - I think because of the change in setting (the good guys are in a skyscraper when the bad guys show up, so the battle ranges all about.) Again, there was plenty of gunplay, knifeplay, and hand-to-hand combat. It's notable that everyone involved in any fight in this movie ends up somehow fucked up...bullet wounds, or knife wounds, or whatever. Very realistic.

acting: Chris Hemsworth returns as the mercenary who suffers numerous wounds but always bounces back. Golshifteh Farahani and Adam Bessa are siblings allied with him. Two guys named Tomike (Gogrichiani and Bziava are their last names) play the evil brothers who lead the Georgian mafia. Tinatin Dalakishvili is the sister-in-law who (along with her children) must be rescued. Andro Japaridze is one of those children, who's naive and at times downright stupid - definitely worse than a Barry. Idris Elba shows up briefly, twice, as connective tissue to make this a franchise with greater plots than just single missions.

final word: Another good, fast-moving action and violence extravaganza.
